Protect your Web Site from Cybersquatters

In order to protect yourself, you should be aware of the following forms of cybersquatting and domain misappropriation.

1. 'The Sneaky Competitor': One of your competitors sets up a web site using a variation of your domain name in order to lure your customers away. "

Fink - Home: "The Fink project wants to bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X. We modify Unix software so that it compiles and runs on Mac OS X ("port" it) and make it available for download as a coherent distribution. Fink uses Debian tools like dpkg and apt-get to provide powerful binary package management. You can choose whether you want to download precompiled binary packages or build everything from source. Everything you need to know about IP's Url's DNS: SourceForge.net: Why an Open Source Forge Matters

Everything you need to know about IP's Url's DNS: SourceForge.net: Why an Open Source Forge Matters: "Why an Open Source Forge Matters
SourceForge.net: Why an Open Source Forge Matters: "what I’m doing at SourceForge. The basic message is always some version of this SourceForge has lost its way over the past few years.

And to some extent I believe that message but I believe those days of wandering in the wilderness are over. We’ve got new management that is very committed to growing open source, and revitalizing the sourceforge.net brand. And we’ve got world class development and community teams who keep impressing me with new things every day.

But that’s not why I’m here. Let me be clear, I believe SourceForge.net matters, and I believe what we are doing here is important, otherwise I wouldn’t have spent the last 2+ years of my life trying to make it better."

dns - How do I check that a domain is available without triggering a grabber? - Pro Webmasters - Stack Exchange

dns - How do I check that a domain is available without triggering a grabber? - Pro Webmasters - Stack Exchange: "Particularly with domains, people who are trying to invest and develop valuable portfolios should use the fact that they are a "larger than normal buyer" and do the best that they can to make it work to their advantage.

Additionally one should not "get to crazy about such things". Finally one should realize that domains do have specific expiration dates, and grace periods after expiration. Sometimes the domain you want may show as "available" because it actual expiration date has gone by, however the registrar of record might have standard procedures allowing their registrant to renew the domain within a set number of days, possibly between 2-4 weeks!"

The Death of Domain Parking and the Birth of a New Vertical Web 2.0 Empire

The Death of Domain Parking and the Birth of a New Vertical Web 2.0 Empire: "Domaineers and others who advertise online using generic keyword domains believe domaineering provides a useful, legal and legitimate Internet marketing service while opponents of domaineering decry the practice as increasing the ubiquitous commercialization of the world wide web. Those same opponents of domaineering suggest that a better use would be for one firm to develop a website for it's products using a relevant generic keyword domain pointed at or as it's url oddly for the same commercial purposes they cite the domaineer using it as, i.e., advertising."
